Juan Muñoz-Oca is Executive Vice President of Winemaking, Vineyards and Operations for Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, overseeing grape growing and winemaking at all of the company’s properties in Washington, Oregon and California.
Juan joined Ste. Michelle Wine Estates in 2001 as a member of the viticulture department, later became a winemaker spending most of his early career at Columbia Crest Winery. Quickly his responsibilities grew beyond Columbia Crest, through his tenure Juan lead the winemaking efforts of several wineries within the group including 14 Hands, Northstar, and Spring Valley Vineyards; he was also the creative force behind some of the most daring wines in our portfolio: Intrinsic and Borne of Fire. Juan studied viticulture and enology at the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza Argentina, where he grew up, later he graduated from Business School at Columbia University in New York City. Juan describes himself as hopelessly optimistic, his work today centers around our efforts towards crafting honest wines that are truthful to the place where they are grown, as well as leading our sustainability, future winemakers development, and innovation strategies around technology in winemaking from grape to bottle. |
