Peter Mayer is the Deputy Executive Director of the nationally accredited Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma, Washington State’s first and largest independent park district serving over 213,000 Tacoma residents. He leads the agency’s Business and Innovation Department, including Finance and Budget, GIS and Business Intelligence, Information Technology, Marketing and Resource Development, Communications, and Human Resources and Organizational Development.
Prior to Metro Parks Tacoma, Mr. Mayer served as deputy director and chief operating officer of the Snohomish Health District in Everett, Washington, serving over 757,600 Snohomish County residents. He led the agency’s administrative services section as well as oversight of Community Health, Communicable Disease Control/Emergency Preparedness-Response and Environmental Health divisions. Mr. Mayer is the former Chair/President of the Washington State Association of Local Public Health Officials representing local public health jurisdictions in Washington State where he facilitated a public health workforce development strategy and state legislative proposals defining and funding Foundational Public Health Services. As past president of Washington Recreation and Parks Association, he represented over 1,500 park and recreation professionals and industry experts. As a Governor appointee to the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board, he oversaw investments of over $96 million for the acquisition and development of parks, trails, sportfields and preservation of wildlife habitat. A graduate of Washington State University, Mr. Mayer earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in parks and recreation administration. He also completed a semester at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, focusing on geography, natural resource management, and parks. He enjoys swimming, mountain biking, trail running, racquetball, soccer, hiking, camping, and traveling with his family. |
